I had a moment today where I realized very clearly that lipstick or lipgloss is NOT compatible with outerwear. This was me today. I was going out to the dentist so I specifically didn't put on lipstick or gloss because that would be plain silly. Instead, I put on Laura Mercier's Lip Silk lip balm- it's a clear, thick and nourishing balm that I wear all year long for soft, smooth lips. I head outside with all my gear on and realize within two minutes what a pain in the ass it is to have anything on the lips in such restrictive clothing. Like a fly in ointment, it is annoying to get hair in your lip gloss, but it is maddening to have hair, a high collar and a scarf all up to your nose while trying to maintain your make up. This goes for all women: we leave the house, ready for work or our day out, face is ON and then the reality of it makes us want to wipe it all off.
So I actually thought about this. What to do. Yes, I do this- try to problem solve everyday make up mishaps. One doesn't want to get gloss on her scarf or collar, right? And natural lips are fine, but what if we could have it all? A pop of uncomplicated color during these months of extreme bundling.
This is what I came up with: Stain the lips. Take a lipstick with good pigment. Try out a red or a rich plum or wine and put it on. No liner. No fuss or perfection. Put it on as you get ready to go out. Perhaps an hour before you leave? Even 30 minutes is fine- it just has to sink into your lips and stain them. When you're ready to go, take a tissue and blot/wipe the majority of the lipstick off so that the stain is left. There should be enough emollients from the lipstick left on your lips to leave a cheery, just bitten stain or sheen. Top with a non-greasy lip balm like the Laura Mercier mentioned above or the ones I Blogged about a year and a half ago on my old Blog: http://gothamgoddess.livejournal.com/42576.html.
Voila! You'll have some color but no (or minimal) transfer onto your clothes/hair.
Make up credit: In Picture I am wearing Laura Mercier's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer in Natural Radiance and NARS bronzer in Laguna. Curled lashes. That's it.
